This was my first year as a high school wrestling parent. What a fun adventure. I have to brag on the coaching staff at Worland High School. Head Coach Josh Garcia is amazing! He cares about his athletes and challenges them to be better, not just at wrestling but as human beings. For my son, I always pray for coaches that don't just teach him about being a good athlete, but model being a good man. Every one of the coaches on our team does that for these student athletes. Coach Garcia, Coach Mueller, Coach Utterback and Coach Harrington all sacrifice time with their own families (a LOT of time) to train, encourage, coach and teach our students about wrestling and life lessons that wrestling teaches. I can not say enough how impressed with this program I am.
I am also impressed with the young men who go out on that mat every week and battle it out. It does not matter if it is their first year wrestling or their final year, they hit the mats every night to learn, train and gain knowledge. And come time for duals or tournaments, they stand in front of a crowd, going one on one with another athlete. One comes out on top and one has to hold his head high despite the loss. It is hard to watch, but I am certain it is harder to do. These young athletes have my utmost respect. They have to watch their diets, train hard and on tournament weekends fight off up to 10 challengers. In every match they have to dig down deep to keep fighting and keep their cool, and remember what they were taught.
Tonight, seven wrestlers, and one dedicated manager will stand with their parents at their last home duel of their high school career. It will be a bittersweet moment for all involved. As they proudly walk in front of the crowd and then get to work trying to win one more time. Parents, enjoy these last few weeks with those seniors, as next year, they will be off on a new adventure. Worland has a proud tradition of excellence in our Warrior Wrestling program and that tradition will continue with these young men and women. Good luck tonight seniors. Thank you for being role models for the younger students and your community.
Let me introduce to you the Seniors of Warrior Wrestling! Please come out and support them tonight at 6:30 at Worland High School!
